Nepal Police Active in Humane Resettlement of Landless Squatters

KATHMANDU, April 26 – In alignment with the Government of Nepal’s initiative to manage landless squatters and informal settlers, the Nepal Police has been mobilized with a focus on humanitarian sensitivity. The campaign aims to ensure a bright future, secure housing, and a dignified lifestyle for genuine landless citizens.

Under this significant governmental move, the Nepal Police is working at the forefront, coordinating with relevant stakeholders to manage disorganized settlements along the banks of the Manohara River, Thapathali, and Gairigaigaun in the Kathmandu Valley.

Leadership Oversight and Field Inspections

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Bahadur Karki, along with the Chief of Kathmandu Valley Police Office (Ranipokhari), Additional Inspector General (AIG) Ishwar Karki, personally conducted on-site inspections of the resettlement operations. During the visit, the leadership emphasized the need for maintaining high morale and professional conduct while dealing with sensitive residential issues.

The Nepal Police has prioritized information gathering and situational analysis to manage potential resistance or obstacles effectively. The mobilized personnel are dedicated to providing necessary support for the safe relocation of citizens to designated areas, keeping public safety as their highest priority.

Cracking Down on Exploitation

The police have also raised concerns regarding “opportunistic individuals” who exploit the name of squatters to gain unfair advantages. Such actions often deprive genuine landless people of government services and rights. The Nepal Police remains vigilant and is actively working to bring those misusing the identity of the landless for personal gain under legal scrutiny.

Call for Cooperation

Central Police Spokesperson, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Abi Narayan Kafle, stated:

“Nepal Police has always been committed to ensuring justice, rights, and secure housing for genuine victims. We request all authentic landless citizens to unite and cooperate with the state’s resettlement efforts by providing accurate information and supporting security agencies in a timely manner.”

The proactive presence of the top police leadership in the field has strengthened security management, ensuring that the relocation process proceeds in a more organized and coordinated manner.
